BODIES OF CLAY
Forms that were made form clay harvested and processed in the Sierra María - Los Velez national park*.
This clay itself has autonomy - you have to learn how best to work with it depending on its properties. This clay is stretchy, it pushes back against attempts form mould it through coiling. A lot of experimentation was involved to learn and adapt to this type of clay. The shape of the vessels ended up in was dictated by the properties of the clay. In the end these forms are large pinch pots, starting started as balls of clay which are pinched and stretched into vessels. I was learning whilst I was modelling and had to really listen to the clay body.
Once the pots have dried to greenware, they replicated the same bright white colour as the mountains they come from.
