Black Stone Rock
Blackstone Rock is a nature reserve outside of Kidderminster, a town which is historically heavily industrialised. These dramatic red cliffs are made of incredibly soft sandstone and over the centuries, humans have manipulated and carved into the rock. Evidence of this activity is still present on its surface.
Pottery is one of the oldest and most domestic art forms. Half the worlds population live in homes made of brick and clay vessels can emerge from archaeological digs thousands of years after being made. Through thinking with clay, this project investigates the layers of history that are visible around Blackstone Rock.
